The Blueprint was started in 2001 by a team of 40 volunteers in Manhattan's Upper West Side who wanted to create a local Jewish event guide for young Jews to meet each other and find out the scoop on what was happening in their community. Blueprint began as a physical newspaper with over 20,000 copies distributed each month at 250 Manhattan venues.
Blueprint's lack of affiliation with any particular stream of Judaism enabled the publication to gain momentum by remaining "middle of the road." Blueprint simply serves as a platform for young Jews to find out information about their community and to pick whatever events appeal to them—hence a "Blueprint" for the Jewish community.
The publication quickly built a reputation as the go-to guide for everything Jewish for young Jews, from articles about young Jews doing cool things to Jewish play reviews to listings of every local Jewish event of interest to a young Jew in the city. Blueprint is completely self-funded and all revenue comes solely from advertising which has enabled the publication's growth since its inception.
In 2006, The Blueprint adapted to the changing times and retired the print edition in favor of online expansion, launching
losangelesblueprint.com
and
jerusalemblueprint.com
in addition to the already established
nyblueprint.com
. Blueprint as a whole receives 50,000 visitors and about 500,000 pageviews a month, in addition to an email list close to 10,000. Readers range in age, affiliation and interests, but the majority are young Jews in their 20's and 30's who are looking to get involved Jewishly, meet new people and add value to their lives. Advertisers have included 92nd St Y, JCC in Manhattan, Whole Foods, Carnegie Hall and New York Opera.
Blueprint has been featured in The Forward,
